The Money Beets

A little something to get you through another day at the office…

Which is why the Tin Man had to pull his car over immediately, because you know how he likes his beats… served fresh with a side of heavy bass lines that bump, to make that hollow tin chest of his go thump, to the sound of that raw ground wire hump… so he remembers what it feels like to have a heart.  Needless to say, the Tin Man was quite relieved that he could stop crying when he stumbled upon this batch of “oddities, soddities, and heresies” from when James Pants thought he was going to be a rap producer.  This collection is sure to get any party going while these tunes are sifting through some speakers.  Be sure check out the free download over at Stones Throw, and while you’re there, cop the rest of his catalog with albums like Welcome, Seven Seals, and his latest James Pants… which has a rad Indian motorcycle on the back.

Pants Beats
…and now for the video that started it all and certified me as a James Pants fan… (note: turn up the bass)

He also puts on an insane live show with his band, Royal Zodiac, so you better be going if he ever comes through your town. I should know.  There’s me in the background of the Stones Throw ’09 tour in Portland, OR.

Stones Throw PortlandPeanut Butter Wolf, Mayer Hawthorne, Dam-Funk, and of course James Pants & Royal Zodiac.  Thanks to Arian Stevens Photography for allowing me to geek out by still being up on Stones Throw’s site.

All You Need

It’s a shame that summer is officially over, but hopefully the change is for the better.  So here’s a quality video to cruise out to…

Keeping with that driving like a maniac theme, and the fact that Primus was just at the Filmore in Silver Spring for their new album, Green Naugahyde… a show I unfortunately missed, but instead got to chill with the coolest racer chick I know, so I can’t complain… here’s a cheesy classic…

Finally, just one more driving summer song for a season that’s already done with… here’s to some cool fall days…

Just Sit Up On My Satellite

North Star

Well funny thing happened today… One of those primitive primates that we blasted into the peripheral outer atmosphere and infinite beyond actually sent back a signal to the Tin Man’s antenna.  Apparently it was a long forgotten radio broadcast transmitted into the cosmos to see if anyone’s actually out there… complete with all the funky spaced out vibes you would expect from monkey’s making music with martians.  So go forth and touch a monolith.  Get lifted to a higher state, because after all, “they lied when the said there was no air in space.”

After further decoding of the transmission, here’s what we were able to come up with:

Richard Strauss – Also Sprach Zarathustra (Thus Spake Zarathustra) / Sound of Genesis – Journey To The Moon / Dam Funk – Let’s Take Off / James Pants – Cosmic Rapp / Baron Zen – Space BASS / Beastie Boys – Intergalactic (Colleone / Webb Remix) / Cut Chemist – What’s The Altitude (feat. Hymnal) / The Heliocentrics – Joyride / Sonic Sum – Rocket / Cannibal Ox – Cosmos (feat. Rob Swift) / Flying Lotus & Declaime – Whole Wide World (feat. Pattie Blingh) / Ras_G & The Afrikan Space Program – Spacewayz ! / Quasimoto – Astro Travellin / Dr. Octagon – Earth People (Earth Planet Mix) / DJ Shadow – Changeling / Philip Glass – Lady Day

One of the featured artists on this week’s broadcast, Dam-Funk, continues to keep the space funk alive with his new FREE! EP, InnaFocusedDaze.  Be sure to check it out at Stones Throw’s site, and if you haven’t heard his epic 5xLP sincerely funked opus, Toeachizown, do yourself a favor.  Keeping with the space vibe, here’s a nice video of what good times can be had on the moon if we just got our space program back…

Aside from all the lame shittyness I had to deal with in New York this past weekend, I finally got to check out the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater.  Let me tell you, it was hilarious.  Lord knows why Comedy Central canceled this gem of a show, but I’m just glad that after 15 years, they are still doing ridiculous improv comedy… for free no less… although I did leave a donation in the “Bucket of Truth.”  Then, only to look inside that bucket and have pure, unadulterated Truth with a capital “T” get shot through my mind’s eye and into the depths of my soul… This left me quite frightened and confused, so I had to seek nurturing comfort in the “Hot Chicks Room.”  Anyways, along with the current crew, I was able to witness one of the founding members and SNL star, Horatio Sanz, preform along side Rob Riggle and the camera guy on the only show on right now that seems to be carrying the torch for warped sketch comedy, Jon Benjamin Has A Van… I think his name was Leo Allen.  But yeah, the show was insanity, and definitely the quality deranged sense of humor I wanted to see on September 11th.  So if you’re ever in the neighborhood of NYC or LA, don’t think, just go… They are also touring this year, and I believe they’re coming through my nape of the woods of DC in November.  Don’t think.

Since season 3 looks like it will never see the light of day on a proper DVD release, and the fact that there is a gnarly full harvest moon out tonight that makes me want to howl like “Wolfman Jack,” here’s a clip from one of my all-time favorite shows…

Mandatory 9/11 Post…

What else can be said that hasn’t been said before?  This 10 year anniversary marks a pretty horrible day in our history.  Personally, I was going through chemo therapy when the attacks happened.  So I guess in hindsight, I’ve beaten cancer since then, and Bin Laden is dead.  Yet we still live in a culture of fear.  Honestly, I’m not sure who we should be afraid of anymore.  Terrorists hijacked planes and turned DC and NY into war zones… two cities that I have to travel between today of all days.  I also seem to remember that 3 buildings fell in New York when only 2 were hit.  I’m happy that people are fighting for their freedom in the Middle East, but I’m still not sure how much involvement we should actually have over there.  Yes there’s oil, but there’s oil here too.  I feel that we should be focusing more of our time and resources into coming up with better solutions and rebuilding our own country before tearing down others half way across the globe.  Today should be spent with the friends and family we love most, and never forget the ones we’ve lost.

The Planet of Ape

Space Monkey

The Tin Man stopped by again.  This time he was concerned that he was actually just the byproduct of an over industrialized world of man gone wrong.  What happened to his primal animal instincts… if he ever had any?  Was he a symbol of the destruction of the natural world, or was he just the synergy of the two?  Living flesh fused with cold metallic metal.  I guess that’s what he was trying to get out with this batch of tunes.  Man vs. Ape.  Technology vs. Nature.  Whatever Tin Man, just chill, cause this monkey mix makes me mental… so let’s go break something, smoke a bowl, then send some primates into the peripheral outer atmosphere and the infinite beyond.
